Dr Polly Jacobs - Maternity Leave

As you may have noticed, Dr Polly Jacobs is due to give birth very shortly and will take maternity leave in the next few weeks. 

Dr Francoise Van Dorp (BM, BCh, MRCP) is joining the practice as a Maternity Locum and will be here until February 2012.  She will be taking on Dr Jacobs’ list whilst she is here and is available for all patients to see.

Extended Hours
We offer extended opening hours, which vary week to week.  There is at least one Saturday morning from 0900 – 1030 a month and several late evening appointments, usually on a Wednesday or Thursday from 1830 – 2000.  Please see Reception for more details

Out of Hours
If you need urgent advice or treatment between the hours of 1830 - 0800 Monday - Friday or at the weekend, please call the Out of Hours service in Amesbury on 0300 111 5717.

If you are unable to attend an appointment with one of the doctors or nurses, please telephone or use the link at the bottom of this page to cancel your appointment.

By giving us as much notice as you can you are helping us to make sure that someone else is given your slot.

Clinics & Services

Midwife

baby_lyingRegistered Midwife, Sue Rhind-Tutt, provides antenatal, postnatal and where appropriate, delivery care in collaboration with your doctor and the hospital maternity unit.  She holds her clinics on Monday 2.00pm – 4.00pm. The doctors are also available by appointment during normal surgery hours for antenatal and postnatal care. 

Contraception

All the doctors and both practice nurses offer advice regarding contraception.  If you need urgent advice or emergency contraception please contact reception and you will be put in touch with one of the medical team. 

Diabetic Clinic

Run most afternoons by our Practice Nurses; Caroline Morris and Liz Andrews in conjunction with Dr Deeks who has a special interest in diabetes.  We would encourage all our diabetic patients to attend at least twice a year.  The Retinal photography unit attends the practice yearly to screen all our diabetic patients 

Asthma

asthmaIndividual appointments may be made with Dr Brown or the Practice Nurses throughout the week.  The practice has a particular interest in the treatment of asthma and other breathing problems and has both specially trained staff and monitoring equipment for the review of asthma.  If you need urgent advice telephone 0844 4773483

Counsellling Service (Primary care psychological therapy service)

We have registered graduate mental health worker, Kate Halliday and Martin Thomas, who runs sessions on Wednesday mornings and afternoons.  This is suitable for people who have problems with anxiety, depression or other problems which affect mood or wellbeing. 

Podiatry

A podiatry service is available.  This is run privately at a reduced cost to the patient by Daniel Randall a qualified local podiatrist. Appointments can be made directly by telephoning 01722 782446

elderly_consultDistrict Nurses

The district nurses are responsible for providing skilled nursing care and support for patients and their families in their homes.  They may be contacted on 01722 746776.  The hospital will normally arrange for a district nurse to call on patients who are discharged early and require home nursing. 

Health Visitor Service

Vicky Ellis RN child, H.V. BSc., health visitor, and Louise Chambers Community Nursery Nurse, NNEB, are qualified nurses who have additional training in public health and work within a GP’s team.  They can be contacted on 01722 743417

Physiotherapy

Kate Varley, SRP, CSP, community physiotherapist works locally and  referrals can be made by the doctors.

Minor Surgery

Minor surgery is performed in the Health Centre by appointment using local anaesthetics only; this avoids a journey to the hospital.
